Fire Safety Training For Businesses - Do you comply with the law?

If you own, manage or operate a business, you will need to comply with fire safety law. The main legislation is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, also called the Fire Safety Order, which applies throughout England and Wales, and came into force on 1 October 2006. To comply with legislation, all of your employees need to undergo regular fire safety training. Would your team know what to do in the event of a fire?

The Order applies to virtually all buildings, public places and structures other than individual private dwellings (such as individual flats in a block or family homes). It also covers common parts of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and common parts of blocks of flats and maisonettes.

It is the duty of each business owner to ensure your workplace reaches the required standard and all your employees are given fire safety training. This training should include:

  • Induction training - general fire awareness
  • Periodic refresher training - or where the level of fire risk increases as a result of changes
  • Other training - to support people in fulfilling their fire safety duties, for example the designated 'responsible person'.
  • Training towards competence - such as fire risk assessments, fire warden, fire extinguisher use.

So what's the best way to keep your employees up to date with the latest training? Simple, get each of them to carry out an online course and keep track of who's done it, who needs a refresher, and who needs additional training to become a responsible person.

As a company that specialises in keeping your employees safe with remotely monitored fire and security solutions, it's only natural for us to have online fire safety training courses that are perfect, whatever size of business you operate.

Our online courses cover:

  • Basic fire safety training
  • Fire marshal training
  • Fire extinguisher training.

Ensuring your employees register, then keep up to date with their courses, gives you the confidence that your business complies with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005 which states that all employees should receive regular fire safety training.
